Ultrasonic Atomization

Ultrasound-assisted atomisation process can promote and facilitate the formation of high quality metal powders for Additive Manufacturing (3D printing) and powder metallurgy applications. Research is in collaboration with Brunel University London (Prof. Eskin) where we are using transparent model system to replicate conditions similar to atomisation of real Al melt systems. Then actual aluminium alloy melts were processed in different sonotrode designs (cylindrical/plate). Preliminary results showed that the synergetic effect of frequency, amplitude, vibrating surface and physical properties in-conjunction with cavitation activity play an important role in the formation of controllable droplets and the size distribution of the as-cast particles.
